'Gangwon-i & Teukbyeoli Potato Chips' Launched... A Bag of Co-Prosperity Blending Local Characters and Regional Produce
Gangwon Province, Lotte Mart, and Haitai Confectionery Collaboration
Available Nationwide at Lotte Mart, Lotte Super, and Seven Eleven Starting October 16
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) announced on October 13 that it will launch “Gangwon Corn-Flavored Fresh Potato Chips” (hereafter referred to as Gangwon Potato Chips), featuring the province’s official characters Gangwon-i and Teukbyeoli, nationwide on October 16.
This new product is a regional co-prosperity item created through the combination of fresh potatoes and corn from Gangwon, the technological expertise of Haitai Confectionery, the distribution network of Lotte Mart, and the delightful charm of the province’s characters Gangwon-i and Teukbyeoli.
Haitai Confectionery purchased 75 tons of newly harvested potatoes from farms across the province, including Pyeongchang, as well as corn produced in Gangwon, and developed a savory and mild corn-flavored recipe. A total of 180,000 bags are being produced at the company's Munmak factory in Wonju, and the product will be available at Lotte Mart stores (106 locations), Lotte Supermarkets (350 locations), and Seven Eleven convenience stores nationwide.
This collaboration began at the suggestion of Lotte Mart. With a shared goal of creating a co-prosperity product using local agricultural products, the joint planning started in July, the final recipe was completed in August, and production commenced soon after. The province plans to expand production volume starting next year to further promote the consumption of Gangwon agricultural products and enhance the value of the regional brand.
Gangwon Potato Chips will be showcased at the independent “Gangwon’s Vegetable Shop” display. To celebrate the launch, customers who purchase more than 5,000 won worth of products from this display will receive a prize entry ticket, and winners will be selected to receive resort accommodation vouchers within the province and limited-edition Gangwon-i and Teukbyeoli merchandise.
Additionally, the province, Lotte Mart, and Haitai Confectionery will jointly conduct online promotional campaigns through social media and YouTube to commemorate the launch of the potato chips. In particular, during the Chuncheon AniToy Festival, which will be held from October 17 to 19, a Gangwon-i and Teukbyeoli Potato Chips promotional booth will be set up, offering tasting events, a photo zone, and limited-edition merchandise giveaways for a fun and engaging experience.
