Goseong County in Gangwon Province, a hub city for the peace economy (Governor Ham Myungjun), is set to open the Songjiho Visitor Center this October. With a total project cost of 4 billion KRW, the center covers a site area of 12,036 square meters and a total floor area of 857.74 square meters, consisting of three single-story buildings.
Inside the center, visitors can experience a variety of information through interactive pop-up displays and projector mapping technology, including the origin of Songjiho (the legend of its creation), natural ecology (local wildlife and seasonal changes), experiential content, and introductions to nearby tourist attractions. This setup allows visitors to vividly experience the nature and culture of Songjiho.
The Visitor Center also serves as a comfortable resting place for tourists, offering a variety of exhibits and hands-on activities related to Songjiho. Additionally, it plans to run environmental programs at the beachcombing center, where collected marine debris will be transformed into artworks or accessories.
In the future, the Songjiho Visitor Center will be further utilized as a venue for educational programs linked to beachcombing experiences, a bicycle rental station, and a community event space for local residents.
Goseong County plans to further develop the Songjiho area into a tourism hub where history and ecological resources coexist. Accordingly, additional projects are underway, including the construction of a new Songjiho Observation Tower, the creation of a skywalk connecting the tower to Songjiho Beach, and the development of stay-type tourism facilities around the lake.
