Gyeonggi Province Releases Public Officials Ethics Committee Annual Report... First Among Metropolitan Governments
Gyeonggi Province will become the first metropolitan local government in the country to release an annual report from its Public Officials Ethics Committee.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Audit Committee announced on October 2 that it has published the "2024 Annual Report of the Gyeonggi Provincial Public Officials Ethics Committee," which compiles the activities of the committee, and will make it available to residents for the first time among all metropolitan local governments nationwide.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Audit Committee expects that this decision to release the report will help enhance transparency in the operation of the public officials ethics system and fulfill residents' right to know.
The annual report, which is a statutory document required to be submitted before the second regular session of the local council each year under Article 20-2 of the Public Officials Ethics Act, includes key information and operational results on: ▲ registration, disclosure, and review of public officials’ assets ▲ post-retirement employment restrictions for public officials ▲ the blind trust system for stocks ▲ the gift reporting system ▲ the composition and operation of the Public Officials Ethics Committee ▲ the history of changes in the ethics system for public officials.
The annual report can be easily accessed by anyone on the "Gyeonggi Provincial Audit Committee website" (https://www.gg.go.kr/audit) under "Information Center → Public Officials Ethics System → Gyeonggi Provincial Public Officials Ethics Committee Annual Report."
An Sangseop, Chairperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Audit Committee, stated, "Until now, only the restriction systems, such as post-retirement employment limitations for public officials, have been disclosed on the Audit Committee website when related committee meetings were held. The rest of the contents are being released for the first time with this report."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Public Officials Ethics Committee was established and has been operated since 1993 in accordance with the Public Officials Ethics Act and the Gyeonggi Province Ordinance on the Composition and Operation of the Public Officials Ethics Committee.
