Ministry of Science and ICT and OpenAI Sign MOU to Accelerate 'AI Transformation'
Expanding Cooperation from Public Sector Transformation and Talent Development to Startup Support
Korean Companies Expected to Enter the Global Market through Participation in OpenAI's "Stargate Project"
The Ministry of Science and ICT is joining forces with OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, to accelerate a nationwide "Artificial Intelligence (AI) Transformation." The government plans to use this collaboration as an opportunity to simultaneously advance the AI ecosystem and strengthen competitiveness on the global stage.
On October 1, the Ministry of Science and ICT announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with OpenAI. The MoU outlines a wide range of cooperative initiatives, including: ▲ balanced regional development of the Korean AI ecosystem ▲ promotion of AI adoption in the public sector ▲ joint projects for AI talent development ▲ support for domestic startups ▲ and assistance for participation in OpenAI's global AI data center "Stargate Project."
In particular, the government aims to rapidly expand AI across the public sector to deliver tangible results for citizens, while also driving innovation throughout the industry by fostering domestic startups and nurturing talent. If participation by Korean companies in OpenAI's ongoing "Stargate Project" increases, it is expected that the position of Korean firms will be strengthened in the process of building global AI infrastructure.
