Since the enforcement of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act in January 2022, the importance of investigations related to industrial accidents has increased. In the Gwangju area, where the Pyeongdong and Hanam industrial complexes, as well as automobile, tire, and electronic component manufacturers, are concentrated, the need for specialized investigations has been raised.
The police have formed a seven-member investigation team within the Criminal Mobile Unit, focusing on individuals with experience in industrial safety, health, fire, electrical, and mechanical fields. They plan to strengthen cooperation with the Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Office of the Ministry of Employment and Labor and the National Forensic Service, and to enhance capabilities through specialized training at the Police Investigation Training Institute.
