"Companion Animal Accompaniment Campaign" Launched to Prevent Lost and Abandoned Animals and Promote Responsible Pet Ownership
Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae) has established measures to minimize gaps in emergency veterinary care for companion animals and prevent the occurrence of lost and abandoned animals during the upcoming Chuseok holiday (October 3 to October 9).
On October 1, the province announced that it will provide information on animal hospitals and entrusted management facilities operating during the holiday period and will launch the "Companion Animal Accompaniment Campaign."

By city and county, the animal hospitals operating are as follows: Chuncheon (10), Wonju (12), Gangneung (9), Donghae (3), Taebaek (2), Sokcho (2), Samcheok (2), Hongcheon (6), Hoengseong (2), Yeongwol (3), Jeongseon (2), Cheorwon (2), Hwacheon (1), Yanggu (1), Inje (1), Goseong (1), and Yangyang (3), totaling 62 locations. The entrusted management facilities are located in Chuncheon (6), Wonju (18), Gangneung (16), Donghae (12), Taebaek (4), Sokcho (15), Samcheok (1), Hongcheon (3), Hoengseong (2), Yeongwol (3), Pyeongchang (1), Yanggu (2), Inje (1), Goseong (4), and Yangyang (6), totaling 94 locations.

The "Companion Animal Accompaniment Campaign," conducted in cooperation with the 18 cities and counties in the province and the Gangwon Veterinary Medical Association, focuses on promoting basic safety rules when taking companion animals outside. Banners and posters will be displayed at locations frequently visited by pet owners, such as train stations, bus terminals, traditional markets, and large supermarkets, to actively inform the public about the following: ▲Leash or harness (no longer than 2 meters) required when going out ▲Identification tag attachment ▲Carrying waste bags, among other guidelines.

Seok Seonggyun, Director of the Agricultural Policy Bureau of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, "To ensure that residents and their companion animals can enjoy a safe and happy holiday together during Chuseok, we will establish an emergency care system and actively promote the campaign to prevent lost and abandoned animals."
