Namyangju City Holds the 31st Citizens' Day Celebration
Citizens' Day Marks 30 Years of Local Autonomy
A Festival of Unity and Celebration for All
Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province, led by Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, held the '31st Citizens' Day Celebration' at the Namyangju Sports and Culture Center indoor gymnasium on September 30, creating a platform for unity with citizens.

View original imageThis event was organized to commemorate the 30th anniversary of local autonomy, to reflect on its significance, and to enhance the pride of citizens.
With more than 2,000 citizens in attendance, the event consisted of the Citizens' Day commemorative ceremony, cultural and sports competitions among towns and districts, and congratulatory performances by invited singers. It was held as an open festival where citizens could actively participate and enjoy themselves.
The first part of the ceremony began with a Taekwondo performance by the Namyangju City Taekwondo Association demonstration team. This was followed by student representatives Park Eunsung and Jung Yunji reciting the Citizen Charter, and then the presentation of the Citizen Award and Model Citizen Commendations to outstanding citizens.
This year's Citizen Award recipients were: in the Social Service category, Yoo Gilmun, CEO of Wonbo Co., Ltd.; in the Culture and Arts category, Lee Sangho, principal of Dasan Hangang Elementary School; in the Industry and Economy category, Han Seongwoo, CEO of Mokhyangwon; in the Health and Environment category, Namgoong Wan, head of the Han River Preservation Movement Headquarters; and in the Education and Sports Promotion category, Park Byungsam, president of the Namyangju Badminton Association. In addition, commendations were presented to 12 model citizens by the chairman of the Namyangju City Council and the members of the National Assembly representing Gap, Eul, and Byeong districts.
The second part of the event featured cultural and sports competitions for citizens, as well as vibrant congratulatory performances by singers Heo Chanmi, Jo Jungmin, and Lim Chan. Actor Yoon Dahun served as the host, adding wit and energy to further enliven the atmosphere.

Namyangju started as a city with a population of 227,000 in 1995 and has now grown into the central city of northeastern Gyeonggi Province with 740,000 citizens. He further emphasized, "Going forward, together with our citizen mayors, we will surely complete the transformation of Namyangju into a powerful city branded after Jeong Yak-yong, a self-sufficient city of advanced industry and transportation revolution, and a happy city where citizens' imaginations become reality."
