Strengthening the Control Tower Function for Gender Equality Policies
Starting from October 1, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family will be expanded and reorganized as the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Affairs.
On September 30, the Ministry announced that, following the approval of the revised Government Organization Act at the Cabinet meeting that day, its name would be changed to the "Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Affairs" as of midnight on October 1. The Ministry will strengthen its role as the control tower for gender equality policies and support equal rights and opportunities without discrimination or prejudice based on gender. Minister Won Minkyoung will become the first Minister of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Affairs.
A new Gender Equality Policy Office will be established within the Ministry, and 17 additional staff members will be added. Within this office, there will be a Director of Gender Equality Policy (formerly the Women's Policy Bureau), a Director of Employment Equality Policy (newly established), and a Director of Safety and Human Rights Policy (formerly the Rights Promotion Bureau).
The Director of Gender Equality Policy will be responsible for planning and overseeing gender equality policies, as well as reviewing or investigating gender imbalances and discriminatory systems.
The Director of Employment Equality Policy will oversee efforts to reduce the gender wage gap, promote women's economic participation, and prevent career interruptions. The Director of Safety and Human Rights Policy will strengthen systems for cooperation and coordination among related agencies to prevent violence and support victims.
On October 1, the launch day of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Affairs, a nameplate unveiling ceremony will be held at the Government Complex Seoul, attended by Minister Won Minkyoung and others.
With this organizational restructuring, the Ministry will be expanded from a system of "2 offices, 2 bureaus, 3 directors, 1 spokesperson, and 27 divisions" to "3 offices, 6 directors, 1 spokesperson, and 30 divisions." The official staff size will also increase from 277 to 294.

The newly launched Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Affairs will actively work to close these gaps and spread the value of gender equality, making a meaningful contribution to the lives of all citizens by realizing substantial gender equality."
