Presidential Office: First Lady Kim Hye-kyung Undergoes Treatment for BPPV... Unable to Attend Korea-Japan Summit Dinner
Briefing by President Lee’s Attending Physician Park Sangmin
"Last night, Mrs. Kim reported a sudden onset of dizziness and underwent a medical examination"
"A few days of rest are necessary to prevent falls"
The presidential office announced on September 30 that First Lady Kim Hye-kyung, wife of President Lee Jaemyung, received treatment after being diagnosed with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) following complaints of dizziness the previous evening (September 29).
Park Sangmin, President Lee Jaemyung's attending physician and a professor at Seoul National University Hospital, held an unscheduled briefing on this day. He stated, "Last night, Mrs. Kim reported a sudden onset of dizziness and underwent a medical examination." He added that after conducting neurological and specialized tests, she was diagnosed with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo.
Professor Park explained, "We performed a repositioning maneuver to return the ear crystals to their proper place. She showed partial improvement and has recovered significantly, but some symptoms remain, so medication was prescribed and she was advised to rest."
He continued, "We examined her again this morning and her symptoms have improved greatly, but she is still experiencing some dizziness. To prevent falls, it is necessary for her to rest for a few days. Medically, it is recommended to rest for two to three days even after recovering from benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, and since complete rest without movement is required after treatment, she is inevitably unable to attend today's scheduled events."
