On the morning of the 29th, the launch ceremony for the "Physical AI Global Alliance," which brings together key players from industry, academia, research, and government both domestically and abroad, was held at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman in Jung-gu, Seoul. The alliance aims to secure global leadership in Physical AI and has been established under the leadership of the Ministry of Science and ICT, which oversees AI policy in Korea.

Minister of Science and ICT Baek Kyunghoon stated, "Through this alliance, we aim to secure AI sovereignty and lay the foundation for world-class technological competitiveness. We will actively support participating organizations to work closely together so that companies can expand globally." He especially emphasized the alliance's commitment to solving industrial challenges, nurturing talent, securing data, and entering global markets.

The alliance will be co-chaired by the ministers of Science and ICT, Trade, Industry and Energy, and SMEs and Startups, as well as Assemblyman Chung Dongyoung of the Democratic Party and Assemblyman Choi Hyungdoo of the People Power Party, the president of the Korea Artificial Intelligence Software Industry Association, and the president of the Korea Automobile & Mobility Industry Association, making a total of seven co-chairs. Leading companies in Physical AI demand and supply, such as Hyundai Motor Company, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, and LG AI Research Institute, along with universities and research institutes, will serve as a collaborative platform.

Specifically, the alliance is structured into five ecosystem divisions and five domain divisions. The five ecosystem divisions will develop public-private cooperation models, strategies for responding to international standardization, and policy directions to gain an edge in the global Physical AI technology race. These divisions are led by Woo Hyung Lim, President of LG AI Research Institute (Technology Division), Yoo Won Kim, CEO of Naver Cloud (Solution Division), Min Kisik, CEO of SK Shieldus (Governance Division), Kwang Hyung Lee, President of KAIST (Talent Division), and Jungwon Yoon, CEO of AWS Korea (Global Cooperation Division).

The five domain divisions, led by Dongseok Lee, CEO of Hyundai Motor Company (ADV Division), Minpyo Kim, CEO of Doosan Robotics (Fully Autonomous Robot Division), Sangkyun Lee, CEO of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (Core Industry Division), Hee Hwang, CEO of Kakao Healthcare (Wellness Tech Division), and Junho Baek of FuriosaAI and Sunghyun Park of Rebellion (co-chairs of the ACR Division), will focus on promoting the practical application of Physical AI technologies and addressing on-site challenges.

The alliance plans to collaborate with the "Manufacturing AX Alliance," which was launched earlier this month, by sharing operational outcomes and facilitating communication between Physical AI demand and supply companies. The government intends to keep the alliance open to new participants and expand its scale by the end of the year.

Moon Young Lim, Vice Chairman of the National AI Strategy Committee, said, "Based on this alliance, South Korea, a manufacturing powerhouse, must innovate its industrial capabilities. We will prioritize incorporating feedback from the field into policy."

Jason Kwon, Chief Science Officer (CSO) of OpenAI, who delivered a congratulatory message remotely, expressed hope that the alliance's cooperation model would become a global benchmark. CSO Kwon said, "OpenAI will provide technical cooperation in building the Physical AI ecosystem. We will support trust-building, ensure safety, and enable meaningful technological applications across key manufacturing and industrial sectors."
