Outdoor Library "Reading Dongjak" Opens at Boramae Park
Open Every Thursday to Sunday Until October 19
Four Themed Spaces: Reading, Performances, Experiences, and Play
Dongjak District in Seoul, led by Mayor Park Ilha, opened an outdoor library called “Reading Dongjak” at Boramae Park on September 25, celebrating the autumn reading season. This outdoor library has been set up at the “Reading Boramae Garden” next to the soccer field in the park, in connection with the 2025 Seoul International Garden Expo.
The library will be open until October 19, operating every Thursday through Sunday. On Thursdays and Fridays, it is open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturdays and Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The approximately 3,000-square-meter space is organized into four themed areas: the reading space “Dongjak Bookstore,” the outdoor stage “Dongjak Madang,” the experience zone “Dongjakhada,” and a play area. “Dongjak Bookstore” offers more than 1,000 books, allowing visitors to enjoy reading freely on picnic mats or bean bags.
In addition, “Dongjak Madang” hosts music and performance shows, a busking zone for young artists, a “Writing Tree” zone, and a coloring wall. There are also a variety of hands-on activities for children and families. “Dongjakhada” features participatory programs such as picture book docent sessions, pipe cleaner flower and keyring making, and magic shows, while the play area offers board games and sand play.
The district will hold an opening ceremony on October 2 at 5 p.m. at the outdoor stage, with Mayor Park Ilha and local residents in attendance. The operating schedule may change depending on the weather. For more details, visit the official Instagram account (@outdoorlibrary_dongjak) or contact the Dongjak Cultural Foundation.
