Through the training, the county reviewed the following: proficiency in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for livestock epidemics and cultivation of initial response capabilities; cooperation systems among related quarantine agencies; and procedures to minimize damages to livestock farms by quickly containing the spread of disease.
The exercise began with a report of suspected animals at a Korean cattle farm. In the initial quarantine phase, the movement of people and vehicles was restricted, access roads were disinfected, and samples were collected. After a positive diagnosis of foot-and-mouth disease, the process continued with culling of livestock, epidemiological investigations, and temporary movement restrictions. Additional measures included the operation of disinfection facilities and control checkpoints, as well as further quarantine actions in areas near the affected farm.
On the day of the training, more than 300 people participated, including Seo Taewon, the mayor of Gapyeong County, Kim Kyungsoo, chairman of the Gapyeong County Council, Lim Gwanghyun, a member of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, Nam Seou, head of the Gapyeong Livestock Cooperative, as well as officials from Gyeonggi Province and other cities and counties, and local livestock farmers. The participants reaffirmed the importance of blocking the spread of livestock epidemics. They especially resolved to strengthen accountability for preventive quarantine, support quarantine activities on farms, and expand education and guidance.
