Solus Advanced Materials Nears Exclusive Approval from French Battery Firm... Proves High-End Battery Foil Technology
Approval for High-Strength 6-Micron Battery Foil from ACC
Securing Technological Capability Amid Battery Lightweighting Trend
Expanding Material Competitiveness Through Industry-Academia Collaboration and Manufacturing Innovation
Solus Advanced Materials is in the final stage of obtaining ultimate approval from a European electric vehicle battery manufacturer, demonstrating its technological competitiveness in the high-end battery foil (copper foil for batteries) sector.
The company announced on the 26th that it is currently in the final phase of the exclusive approval process for its high-strength product, the HTS (High Tensile Strength) 6μm (micrometer) battery foil, with the French battery manufacturer ACC. At present, Solus Advanced Materials is the only company in Europe to have advanced to the final stage of high-end battery foil approval with global battery manufacturers.

View original imageAs the trend toward lighter electric vehicle batteries continues, the market is shifting from 8μm-centered products to ultra-thin foils of 6μm or less. Ultra-thin battery foil is essential for improving battery energy density and reducing weight, but it is difficult to consistently meet the demanding physical property requirements. Solus Advanced Materials has secured the technology to mass-produce products as thin as 4μm, with maximum tensile strength of 70 kgf/mm² (kilogram-force per square millimeter), and elongation up to 15%.
Solus Advanced Materials expects demand for these high-end products to expand significantly from 2026. Starting next year, the company plans to supply high-end battery foil to global battery manufacturers, including ACC and China's CATL.
Meanwhile, Solus Advanced Materials is conducting a quality enhancement project based on industry-academic cooperation, focusing on its Hungarian subsidiary. The company is also accelerating the development of next-generation battery foil technology by introducing a data-driven smart manufacturing system.
