The government posthumously awarded the late Protestant pastor Shin Kyungha, who passed away on the 22nd, the Order of Civil Merit, Moran Medal (2nd Class). He was 84 years old.

View original imageBeginning his service as the senior pastor of Dobong Methodist Church in 1973, the late pastor served as Bishop of the Korean Methodist Church (2004-2008) and as President of the National Council of Churches in Korea (2004-2005). He dedicated himself to restoring trust in the Korean church and fostering the church’s social solidarity activities.
In particular, during his tenure as Chairman of the Taehwa Welfare Foundation (2004-2012), he devoted himself to supporting the socially disadvantaged, including people with disabilities and the elderly. As Chairman of the Association with Those Who Suffer (2008-2020), he showed deep concern for the human rights of long-term prisoners and provided continuous support. Furthermore, as Chairman of the organization Kyere Sarang, he worked for peace and reconciliation between North and South Korea, and in 2005, as President of the National Council of Churches in Korea, he led the South-North Joint Prayer Meeting for the Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration and Peaceful Reunification.
