Taebaek City Selects 2025 Taebaek Citizen Award Recipients... Ceremony Set for October 2
Taebaek City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Lee Sangho) announced on the 25th that it has finalized the selection of recipients in four categories for the 2025 Taebaek Citizen Awards, following a review by the Taebaek Citizen Award Merit Review Committee on the 15th.
In the culture and arts category, Jeong Ki-young, head of the Taebaek branch of the Korean Writers’ Association, was selected. Jeong Ki-young established the Hanmaeum Literary Society, laying the groundwork for local literary and artistic activities and contributing to the creation of a literary network. Since 2022, he has also planned literature programs for both civilians and military personnel, helping to foster literary sensibilities among soldiers and supporting a healthy military life.
In the regional development category, Namgung Deokhwa, a school security officer at Hwangji Elementary School, was chosen. Since 2019, Namgung Deokhwa has led efforts to prevent crime and accidents by guiding student traffic safety during school commutes and patrolling around the school, thereby raising safety standards on campus. He has also contributed to sharing and environmental conservation in the community through volunteer work and participation in environmental monitoring activities.
In the sports promotion category, Lee Junghyuk, branch manager of Gangwon Ilbo, was selected. As the inaugural head of the Taebaeksan World Baduk Sanctuary Project Group in 2023, Lee Junghyuk played a key role in connecting the local and global Baduk communities. He also achieved the feat of hosting the Prime Minister’s Cup World Baduk Championship for three consecutive years, making significant contributions to the promotion of Baduk culture and regional development.
In the model public official category, Yoon Jinhui, head of the Jangseong Center at Taebaek Fire Station, was selected. Over 31 years, Yoon Jinhui has protected numerous lives and properties through prompt and accurate responses at fire, rescue, and emergency scenes. He has also contributed to community welfare through safety inspections for vulnerable groups, safety education, life safety campaigns, talent donations, and local scholarship donations.
