"Jangheung Railway Tourism Era Begins"... Namhae Line to Open on the 27th
Project Completed After 23 Years of Construction
The Namhae Line railway (Shinboseong-Imseongri, 82.5 km) will officially open on September 27.
On September 25, Jangheung County in South Jeolla Province announced that the national project, which began construction in 2002 and invested 1.6488 trillion won, has been completed.
The Namhae Line is a key trunk line in the nationwide 4x4 high-speed rail network. With this opening, travel between Mokpo and Busan will take about five hours, and between Jangheung and Busan about four hours. Jangheung County expects the improved transportation convenience and increased tourist inflow to revitalize the local economy.
Train service will operate four round trips on weekdays and five round trips on weekends, based on one-way trips. Korail is providing timetables and station information through its official channels.
The county is requesting the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korail to convert Jangheung Station to a staffed station and to expedite the electrification of the Boseong-Suncheon section. If the original plan is followed, travel between Mokpo and Busan could be completed in approximately two hours and thirty minutes.
