At the opening ceremony, Jeju Governor Oh Younghoon stated, "The solution to achieving carbon neutrality lies in green hydrogen and distributed energy," adding, "Jeju has proven its potential by establishing the nation's first commercialized green hydrogen ecosystem." He went on to say, "We will take the lead in the K-Carbon Neutral Initiative by expanding flexible resources and introducing innovative market systems."
To this end, Jeju Province presented four key directions: ▲ accelerating the transition to a renewable energy society by expanding offshore wind and solar power; ▲ expanding flexible resources and activating distributed energy by utilizing energy storage systems (ESS) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology; ▲ enhancing energy efficiency by introducing innovative systems and market mechanisms such as a low-carbon central contract market and a real-time electricity trading market; and ▲ establishing a world-leading model through the Gapado carbon-neutral model and the 100% renewable energy (RE100) convergence industry.
Governor Oh also said, "Since the President has designated Jeju as the starting point of the K-Carbon Neutral Initiative, I hope this forum will serve as a platform for discourse on the future."

There is also an ongoing project to build a 10.9MW electrolysis complex in Bukchon by 2027.
Since September last year, the 3.3MW Haengwon complex has been producing about 200 kilograms of hydrogen per day, supplying it to 17 hydrogen buses and hydrogen passenger cars in the province. This is recognized as the first domestic case demonstrating the potential for a clean hydrogen ecosystem based on renewable energy.
Building on this, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy plans to promote large-scale (50-100MW) green hydrogen production demonstration projects in renewable energy-concentrated areas such as Jeju Province and the southwestern sea. This project has been selected as one of the new administration's 15 leading mega-innovation economic projects. The government will form a joint task force with relevant ministries such as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as well as academia and industry, to provide focused support in areas such as finance, taxation, financial services, and regulatory improvements.

I hope that the Green Hydrogen Global Forum held in Jeju will further strengthen cooperation among the government, international organizations, academia, and businesses."
Yang Heewon, President of Hyundai Motor Group, said, "In the Jeju dialect, hydrogen is called 'Bagumji' (basket) because it can store renewable energy and be used when needed. Green hydrogen is the key to overcoming these limitations." He continued, "Hyundai Motor Group will actively cooperate with Jeju, a treasure trove of clean energy, to vitalize the hydrogen ecosystem and commercialize V2G technology, aiming to achieve Carbon Free Island 2035."

The two speakers each highlighted the latest trends in hydrogen technology and the importance of international cooperation from the perspectives of Europe and Asia, presenting directions for global collaboration to vitalize the hydrogen economy. Following the keynote speeches, a future vision declaration ceremony was held with Jeju Province and 13 institutions and companies from the energy sector.
The forum, which continues until the 26th, will feature sessions on the global standardization of green hydrogen storage and transportation, V2G technology and zero-carbon power, and hydrogen mobility.
