During the inspection, several fall hazards were identified, including a lack of fall prevention measures during elevator installation, the absence of external scaffold work platforms, and unsecured covers for openings. Immediate corrective actions were ordered for these issues.
At the site, Seongdong District also demonstrated the "Safe Seongdong Project," the first of its kind in the country. This program allows foreign workers to use QR codes to learn safety rules in 17 different languages. It has been recognized as an innovative model that effectively addresses the lack of interpreters and foreign-language materials at construction sites.
After the demonstration, Kim Younghoon, Minister of Employment and Labor, stated, "We will expand the Safe Seongdong Project nationwide to strengthen the safety of foreign workers at small-scale construction sites and do our utmost to achieve zero fatalities from industrial accidents."
Seongdong District plans to build up its experience and capabilities in industrial safety at the field level before central government measures are implemented, with the goal of establishing industrial safety governance in collaboration with both central and local governments.
Jung Wono, Mayor of Seongdong District, emphasized, "Safety is not a cost but the most certain investment, and companies that maintain safe worksites create the highest value. We will continue to work with the central government to establish regional industrial safety governance and realize a city where everyone can feel secure."
