Kim Dongyeon Signs Friendly Cooperation MOU with Chongqing City, China... Strengthening Comprehensive Collaboration
Gyeonggi Province has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for friendly cooperation with Chongqing City, China.
According to Gyeonggi Province, Governor Kim Dongyeon met with Mayor Hu Henghua and other Chongqing leaders on the 23rd and signed the MOU for friendly cooperation, as announced on the 24th.
Governor Kim Dongyeon stated, "I am pleased to establish a friendship agreement with Chongqing City," adding, "I do not want today's signing ceremony to be merely a formal event for signatures."
Mayor Hu Henghua responded, "I fully agree with and support this excellent proposal," and added, "We also wish to join hands for the development of both regions."
Chongqing is a municipality directly governed by the central government of China, alongside Beijing, Shanghai, and Tianjin.
Chongqing is not part of any province or state but is a special city granted equivalent authority and is one of the largest cities in the world by area, covering 82,403 square kilometers.
In particular, as a central hub of China's economy and logistics, Chongqing ranks fourth among Chinese cities in terms of gross regional domestic product (GRDP), with 447.7 billion dollars (approximately 623 trillion won, compared to Gyeonggi Province's 594 trillion won).
The city has developed industries such as automobiles, electronics, information technology (IT), and smart manufacturing, attracting many Korean companies including SK Hynix, POSCO, and Hankook Tire. Recently, Chongqing has also been actively fostering new industries such as new energy vehicles, robotics, and biotechnology.

The two sides also agreed to maintain regular dialogue and communication through mutual visits of delegations and letter exchanges, and to actively participate in international events hosted by each city.
On the same day, Gyeonggi Province signed two sector-specific memoranda of understanding (MOUs).
The Gyeonggi Business & Science Accelerator and the Chongqing Municipal Commission of Commerce agreed to establish the Korea-China Economic Friendship and Cooperation Center, which will serve as a cooperation platform for businesses, residents, youth, and public institutions.
In addition, the Gyeonggi Business & Science Accelerator and the Liangjiang New Area Administrative Committee, known as a key hub for the automotive industry in Chongqing, agreed to cooperate in fields such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and youth employment. Liangjiang New Area is one of the three national-level new areas in China and serves as a core base for external openness.
