Kim Byunggi Criticizes People Power Party's "Political Attacks" Over Opposition to Abolishing Breach of Trust Crime
Kim Doeup Criticizes, "This Law Is Intended to Eliminate President Lee Jaemyung's Daejang-dong Trial"
Kim Byunggi, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, addressed the controversy over the proposed abolition of the crime of breach of trust on September 23, stating, "The Democratic Party has promised the people to make Korea a business-friendly country," and added, "We made the decision to abolish the breach of trust crime after extensive discussions in order to keep that promise."
At the Democratic Party's floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly on the same day, Floor Leader Kim criticized the People Power Party for its opposition to the abolition of the breach of trust crime. He explained, "The People Power Party claims to be a pro-business party, yet it turns its back on the long-standing wishes of the business community," and added, "It is deeply regrettable that some politicians are distorting facts and intentions to focus on political attacks."

View original imageHe continued, "Abolishing the breach of trust crime is a timely task for restoring the people's economy and normalizing business operations," and emphasized, "This is not a tool for political strife, but an institutional improvement for the benefit of the people and businesses."
He further stated, "The People Power Party must clearly state its position before the public," and proposed, "If they support the abolition, it should be submitted as an agenda item for the consultative body on the people's economy and be processed swiftly during the regular session of the National Assembly." He added, "If they oppose it, they must clearly take responsibility before the public and the business community."

Meanwhile, Kim Doeup, the policy committee chair of the People Power Party, announced at the People Power Party's floor strategy meeting on the same day, "The People Power Party opposes the abolition of the crime of breach of trust under the Criminal Act." Policy Committee Chair Kim argued, "This (abolition of the breach of trust crime) is a law intended to eliminate President Lee Jaemyung's Daejang-dong trial." He also claimed that it is inconsistent with amendments to the Commercial Act aimed at protecting retail investors and others.
