Cheorwon Historical and Cultural Park and Taebong Kingdom King Gungye Historical Park
Cheorwon County in Gangwon Province (Governor Lee Hyunjong) announced on September 22 that the commemorative cultural event for the completion of the Cheorwon Taebong Kingdom King Gungye Historical Park will be postponed to 2:00 p.m. on October 1.
The event was originally scheduled to take place at Cheorwon Historical and Cultural Park and Taebong Kingdom King Gungye Historical Park from 3:00 p.m. on September 29. However, Cheorwon County stated that the date and time of the completion ceremony have been postponed due to internal circumstances.
Cheorwon County invested a total project cost of 19.1 billion won to create the King Gungye Historical Park on a 36,919-square-meter site at 703-8 Hongwon-ri, Cheorwon-eup. The park was established to reflect the historical period from 905 to 918, when Cheorwon served as the capital of Taebong Kingdom. It features the Taebong Kingdom Historical Experience Center, a visitor center, and a highlight miniature of Cheorwon Fortress.
In particular, at the Gungye Memorial Hall, visitors can view the national standard portrait of King Gungye, which was completed after a review by the Portrait and Statue Review Committee under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In addition, a trackless train will operate between Cheorwon Historical and Cultural Park, where the former Labor Party Headquarters is located, and the new park, providing both convenience and enjoyment for visitors.

A Cheorwon County official stated, "Due to internal circumstances during the event preparations, we had no other choice but to make the difficult decision to postpone the event. We will work even harder to prepare a better event and ask for the understanding of all county residents."
