Police Rush to Help at Restaurant After Cry for Help... Save Citizen with CPR
Kim Cheolwook: "I Simply Did What Needed to Be Done"
Police officers dining at a restaurant in Jeongeup, North Jeolla Province, saved a citizen who suddenly collapsed at the same location by performing CPR.
According to the Jeongeup Police Station on September 19, at around 6:17 p.m. the previous day, a man in his 40s, identified as A, suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed at a restaurant in Sang-dong, Jeongeup.
When the restaurant owner urgently called out, "Is there anyone who can help?", Inspector Kim Cheolwook (age 56) and Officer Oh Pilgeun, both from the Sang-dong Police Box and also dining at the restaurant, immediately rushed toward the source of the commotion.
A was found sitting in a chair, unconscious and with a pale face. The two police officers immediately laid him on the floor and loosened his belt and shoes. They then tilted his head back to prevent airway obstruction and quickly began CPR.
Fortunately, A began to regain consciousness about one minute after CPR started. The two officers continued talking to him for about eight minutes until paramedics arrived, making sure he did not lose consciousness again.
Inspector Kim said, "About two years ago, I helped save a fellow badminton club member who collapsed by performing CPR with my colleagues. Knowing how important a swift response is, I ran over as soon as I heard someone was in critical condition. I simply did what needed to be done."
