Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwangdeok) announced that it held the "Together Making Chuseok, Sharing Affection" event on the 18th at Displain Bakery Cafe located in Hwado-eup.

View original imageThis event was organized to celebrate Chuseok, a traditional Korean holiday, by bringing together sponsors and the local community to make songpyeon and deliver them to underprivileged neighbors. The purpose was to promote a culture of sharing and to put the spirit of noblesse oblige into practice.
The event was co-hosted by the Namyangju Welfare Foundation (CEO Won Byeongil) and the Gyeonggi Northern Branch of the Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Kwon Inuk), and organized by the Eastern Hope Care Center (Director Shin Youngmi). Attendees included Mayor Joo Gwangdeok, City Council Chairman Cho Seongdae, Chairman Kwon Inuk, CEO Won Byeongil, over 20 major donors, as well as about 60 local residents and children.
The program featured a variety of activities, including a donation ceremony, a Chuseok rice cake pounding event, songpyeon making, and the distribution of sharing kits.
At the "Chuseok Donation Ceremony," Namyangju City received a sponsorship donation of 160 million won from the Gyeonggi Northern Branch of the Community Chest of Korea, representing 10 cities and counties in northern Gyeonggi Province. The donation will be distributed to each city and county through the Community Chest, with 32.5 million won allocated specifically to support vulnerable groups in Namyangju.
All participants made songpyeon with care and assembled "sharing kits" along with Chuseok gifts. After the event, the songpyeon were delivered to 20 low-income households in the city, while the sharing kits and other sponsored items were distributed to a total of 200 households, adding warmth to the holiday season.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok stated, "This event, where sponsors and the local community came together, was a meaningful occasion to reaffirm the value of sharing and to foster a holiday culture of togetherness. We will continue to create various opportunities for sharing and solidarity so that no citizen is left behind during the holidays."
Chairman Kwon Inuk said, "Small acts of sharing come together to bring great hope to our neighbors. The Community Chest of Korea will continue its efforts to spread a culture of sharing in partnership with the local community."

He added, "All 21 members of the Namyangju City Council are working together for the happiness of our citizens, and we are actively voicing our support for the abolition of the Han River Law and the lifting of regulations on the Paldang Water Source Management Area to create better conditions for Namyangju."
