Violators are subject to imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.
Accordingly, Yangyang County will conduct guidance and enforcement activities in major inland water areas where freshwater gobies inhabit, including the Namdaecheon River. In particular, the county plans to crack down not only on illegal catching but also on the use of illegal fishing gear, electric currents, and toxic substances, as well as all other violations of the Inland Fisheries Act.
An official from Yangyang County stated, "As catching freshwater gobies is strictly prohibited during the spawning season from September to October, we kindly request the active cooperation of residents and anglers to establish order in inland fisheries and to protect fishery resources."
