Yangyang County Launches Combine Harvester Rental Program for Rice Harvest Season
Deployment of 20 Combine Harvesters
Intensive Rental Period Runs Until October 31
The Yangyang County Agricultural Technology Center in Gangwon Province (Director: Hwang Byunggil) is implementing a combine harvester rental program in preparation for the full-scale rice harvest season.
The Agricultural Technology Center has designated the period from September 8 to October 31 as the key rental period for agricultural machinery. To ensure the continuous operation of the combine rental program without breaks on weekends or holidays, the center has secured sufficient manpower, equipment, and parts.
To rent a combine harvester owned by the Agricultural Technology Center, it is mandatory to complete a safety training course. This training plays a crucial role in preventing safety accidents caused by inexperienced operation.
To this end, on September 9, the Agricultural Technology Center provided combine safety training to about 20 farmers who had pre-registered at the Agricultural Machinery Rental Office. Combine specialists from the rental office conducted training on operating techniques, driving practice, and accident prevention to help farmers prepare for potential safety incidents during field work.
The center currently owns 20 combine harvesters. Ahead of the rice harvest, 3 units each have been deployed to Hyeonbuk-myeon and Hyeonnam-myeon, and 2 units each to Yangyang-eup, Seomyeon, Sonyang-myeon, and Ganghyeon-myeon, totaling 14 units distributed to towns and villages.
The remaining 6 combines are kept as backup at the Agricultural Technology Center’s rental office and the southern and northern branches, as breakdowns frequently occur during rice harvesting operations.
To facilitate inspections and repairs, the county has organized a mobile repair team of 11 members for the rental agricultural machinery. Seven dedicated repair personnel are stationed at the Agricultural Machinery Rental Office within the center, and two each are assigned to the southern branch in Hyeonnam-myeon and the northern branch in Ganghyeon-myeon to support local farmers.
Upon receiving a breakdown report, these teams are immediately dispatched to the site. If the combine can be repaired on-site, it is fixed and returned to use right away. If on-site repair is not possible, a replacement combine is provided, and the damaged unit is sent to a professional repair company.
Additionally, considering that small-scale farmers may not have the means to transport rental machinery, the county has assigned six transport personnel to each town and village to deliver combines and other equipment to the fields and handle inspection and maintenance.
Last month, the county held a lottery for local farms wishing to rent a combine, scheduling rentals for 205 farms. Farms seeking additional rentals can contact the Agricultural Machinery Team at the Agricultural Technology Center for further inquiries.
Each farm is allowed to rent a combine for one day per work session, with a daily rental fee of 112,000 won.
