Based on Eco-Friendly Raw Yarn and Dry Spinning Technology
Targeting Industrial Safety and Advanced Device Protection
Full Operation of 5,400-Ton Annual Production Facility Imminent
Toray Advanced Materials is expanding its business in the fields of industrial safety and advanced device protection, based on meta-aramid fibers that offer high heat resistance and electrical insulation. Meta-aramid is a 'super fiber' that can withstand high temperatures of up to 250 degrees Celsius and is used in a variety of industrial settings, including heat-resistant protective clothing, electric vehicle drive motors, and ultra-high voltage transformers.
According to Toray Advanced Materials on September 15, the company is preparing to fully operate its eco-friendly 'meta-aramid raw yarn' production facility in the second half of the year, following the expansion announced at the end of last year. Raw yarn refers to fibers produced by adding pigment at the raw material stage and spinning it directly, eliminating the need for separate dyeing. Since commercializing this product in 2021, it has been used for naval shipboard uniforms, army tank uniforms, and functional workwear. The annual production capacity is 5,400 tons.
Toray Advanced Materials has established a portfolio that covers the entire process from aramid raw fiber to yarn and paper, and has achieved consistent quality by applying the dry spinning method for the first time in Korea. Going forward, the company plans to strengthen its global presence by expanding into markets with high demand for high-performance fibers, such as electrical and electronic, energy, and industrial safety sectors, leveraging its eco-friendly raw yarn and proprietary spinning technology.
