The Gwangju Seo-gu Council has established an ordinance to support energy transition through direct resident participation. The aim is to institutionalize the development of resident-led energy communities to help address the climate crisis and achieve carbon neutrality.

View original imageAccording to the Gwangju Seo-gu Council on September 15, at the 333rd extraordinary session, Assemblywoman Goh Kyungae (Democratic Party of Korea, Hwajeong 3 and 4-dong, Pungam-dong) sponsored the "Seo-gu Resident Participation Energy Transition Support Ordinance," which passed the standing committee.
The ordinance bill includes provisions for discovering and fostering resident participation energy communities, supporting living lab projects, securing public and idle land, linking to residential welfare and urban regeneration, and providing administrative and financial support for education and promotional projects.

Assemblywoman Goh stated, "We have established an institutional foundation so that residents can become not just energy consumers but also key players in production and transition," and added, "Let us create a sustainable Seo-gu through resident participation in the energy transition."
