Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor: Joo Kwangdeok) will begin conducting rapid malaria antigen tests (Rapid Diagnostic Test, RDT) at three public health centers in the city-Namyangju Public Health Center, Namyangju Pungyang Public Health Center, and Dongbu Public Health Center-starting from the 15th, in an effort to strengthen early malaria diagnosis and disease control.

The city plans to reinforce the local public health safety net by establishing an early diagnosis system for high-risk groups ahead of the summer season, when the risk of malaria infection increases.
The rapid antigen test (RDT) uses a small blood sample taken from a fingertip to determine malaria infection within 20 minutes. The procedure is simple and highly accurate even in the early stages of symptoms, making it effective for patient treatment and for preventing the spread of infection within the community.
Eligible individuals include: soldiers who have been discharged within the past two years after serving in border areas; and citizens who have visited malaria-risk regions, either domestically or internationally, and are experiencing symptoms such as fever or chills.
The test is free of charge. Individuals should bring a form of identification and visit the nearest of the three public health centers: Namyangju Public Health Center, Namyangju Pungyang Public Health Center, or Dongbu Public Health Center. If a positive result is confirmed, individuals must follow the guidance of the public health center and receive confirmatory testing and treatment (for a fee) at a designated medical institution nearby.
Namyangju City plans to minimize the risk of community transmission by establishing a rapid response system for suspected malaria cases.
