Preventing Elementary Student Abductions... Gyeongnam Office of Education Launches Missing and Kidnapping Prevention Education
The Gyeongnam Office of Education is launching preventive education initiatives to protect students from abduction and kidnapping.
The provincial office announced on September 12 that, in response to a series of recent crimes involving attempts to approach and abduct students near elementary schools after classes, it will conduct education programs to prevent missing and kidnapping incidents in order to strengthen student safety.
The office will distribute educational materials to all schools, which include guidelines on how to respond to various situations and instructions on how to report incidents, ensuring that safety education is implemented.
Card news will be posted on the websites of the education support offices, affiliated institutions, kindergartens, and elementary schools, and parents will receive newsletters at home outlining kidnapping prevention rules.
The purpose of the preventive education is to alleviate parental concerns and to create a safe educational environment where students can feel at ease.
This initiative is separate from the annual personal safety education that is conducted according to the safety education plans of all schools, including kindergartens.
In addition, the provincial office will implement the "Safe School Commute Notification Service" for all first to third grade elementary school students, sending real-time SMS text messages to parents' mobile phones about their children's arrival and departure from school.
