Park Gongu, Standing Auditor of Korea National Oil Corporation, Becomes First in Energy Public Sector to Obtain "Certified Internal Auditor" Credential
Acquisition of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) Credential
Result of Strengthening Audit Organization Capabilities and Advancing Audit Systems
Korea National Oil Corporation (President Kim Dongseop) announced on September 11 that Park Gongu, Standing Auditor, has obtained the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) credential, the world’s only internationally recognized internal audit certification.
This marks the first time such a credential has been obtained by a domestic energy public enterprise. It goes beyond an individual achievement, demonstrating that the corporation’s audit capabilities have been elevated to meet international standards at an organizational level.
The CIA is a globally recognized certification administered by The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), serving as a representative credential that proves an auditor’s professional expertise and international verification capabilities.
This accomplishment is the result of the knowledge and experience Korea National Oil Corporation has accumulated through its ongoing efforts to strengthen internal audit functions. It also signifies that the corporation’s entire audit organization now meets global standards.
Since taking office, Standing Auditor Park Gongu has consistently pursued practical activities, including on-site audits of both the headquarters and nine storage facilities, as well as overseas oil development projects, and has strengthened safety and ethics inspections. As a result, audit quality has been significantly improved, and recently, the corporation achieved an excellent grade (Grade 2) in the comprehensive integrity evaluation conducted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
This attainment of the CIA credential is seen as an extension of these efforts, serving as a turning point that has qualitatively raised the corporation’s audit standards.
Standing Auditor Park Gongu stated, “This achievement was possible thanks to systematic study and communication with the audit office staff. It is not merely a personal qualification, but a culmination of the audit organization’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its capabilities in line with international standards. We will continue to enhance the corporation’s transparency and accountability by further advancing our internal audit system and expanding our professional expertise.”
