Toyota Korea Launches 2026 Prius HEV AWD XLE
Toyota Korea announced on September 8 that it has officially launched and begun sales of its new all-wheel-drive model, the 2026 Prius HEV AWD XLE. With this launch, the Prius hybrid (HEV) lineup expands from two models to three.
The HEV AWD model is equipped with Toyota's proprietary all-wheel-drive system (E-four), which adds an electric motor to the rear axle. This system achieves all-wheel drive (AWD) without a separate propeller shaft (the power transmission device that delivers engine power to the rear differential), thereby increasing rear seat space utilization, reducing noise, and enabling weight reduction. The rear motor delivers 30 kW (41 ps) of output, resulting in a total system output of 199 ps and an officially certified combined fuel efficiency of 20.0 km/L.
In addition, the electric motor, which is controlled by electronic signals, enhances energy efficiency based on high regenerative braking performance, providing both power and driving stability. The AWD operating status can be checked in real time via the instrument cluster, improving driver convenience.
The price is 45.3 million won (based on a 3.5% individual consumption tax). With Toyota Korea's residual value guarantee financial program "Amazing Switch," a used car value of 24.91 million won (about 55%) is guaranteed. If the vehicle is sold and repurchased through Toyota Financial, up to 65% of its value is guaranteed. With a 30% down payment and a 2% standard interest rate, the monthly payment is around 110,000 won.
Additionally, to celebrate the launch, Toyota Korea is holding an online test drive event from today until September 30. Test drive applications for the Prius HEV and PHEV lineup can be submitted through the official website. Those who complete a test drive will be eligible for a prize drawing, with gifts including the Balmuda The Pure air purifier and the Hermes Body & Hair Special Set.
Prius, which means "pioneer" in Latin, debuted in 1997 as the world's first mass-produced hybrid vehicle. In 2023, Toyota Korea introduced the fifth-generation Prius in Korea under the "Hybrid Reborn" concept.
