Calls for Reflection in the 5th National Railway Network and Metropolitan Transportation Plans
Discusses Measures to Expedite GTX C Line Construction Through Realistic Cost Adjustments
Kim Dae-soon, the Second Vice Governor for Administrative Affairs of Gyeonggi Province, met with Kang Hee-eop, the Second Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, to propose solutions for Gyeonggi Province's railway issues in order to realize the new administration's national agenda of "expanding transportation innovation infrastructure."
On September 5, at the reception room inside Seoul Station of the Airport Railroad, Vice Governor Kim met with Vice Minister Kang and requested that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reflect as many of Gyeonggi Province’s proposed projects as possible in the "5th National Railway Network Construction Plan (2026-2035)" and the "5th Metropolitan Area Wide-Area Transportation Implementation Plan (2026-2030)," both currently being promoted. They also discussed measures to adjust construction costs to ensure the early commencement of the GTX C Line.
On this day, Vice Governor Kim requested the inclusion of 40 projects in the national railway network (three high-speed railways, eight general railways, and 29 metropolitan railways) and 48 projects in the metropolitan area transportation implementation plan. Major projects include the extension of the SRT to Uijeongbu, the extension of the KTX to Paju, the Gyeonggi Southern East-West Line (Semiconductor Line), the creation of the GTX G and H lines, and the Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway.
Vice Governor Kim emphasized, "Including Gyeonggi Province’s railway projects in the national railway network construction plan is not merely about expanding transportation infrastructure; it is a key foundation for fulfilling the government’s regional railway pledges and improving residents’ quality of life, as well as being essential for revitalizing the regional economy. If the proposed projects are included, the convenience of transportation for Gyeonggi residents and the competitiveness of the metropolitan transportation network will be greatly enhanced."
The issue of delays in the commencement of the GTX C Line was also a major focus. Although a groundbreaking ceremony for the GTX C Line was held in January last year, the actual construction has been delayed due to a surge in construction costs.
