"Suspicion of External Pressure on Private Chae Case Investigation": Army 56th Division Commander Park Jinhee Suspended from Duty
Served as Military Aide to Former Defense Minister Lee Jongseop
Major General Park Jinhee, commander of the Army’s 56th Division, who is suspected of being involved in external pressure on the investigation into the death of Private Chae, has been suspended from duty.
The Army announced on September 5 that it has taken steps to separate and reassign Major General Park in order to suspend him from his duties. At the time of the Private Chae case, Major General Park served as a military aide to former Defense Minister Lee Jongseop.
Major General Park is suspected of having instructed former Marine Corps Commandant Kim Gyehwan to "refer only clearly identified suspects for investigation and consider disciplinary action for those responsible for command," effectively directing a reduction in the number of suspects in the case related to Private Chae's death.
