Yeongwol County Selected as Best Practice in Gender Impact Assessment, Wins Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award
Yeongwol County in Gangwon Province announced that its ordinance titled "Yeongwol County Ordinance on Supporting Urban Regeneration Revitalization" was selected as an exemplary case in the legal category of the "2025 Gender Impact Assessment Merit Awards and Best Practices," earning the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Award.
This award was given as part of the commendations recognizing outstanding contributors during Gender Equality Week, and it signifies external recognition of Yeongwol County's efforts in promoting gender equality policies and achieving institutional improvements.
The awardee is Lee Yerim, an official from the Strategic Industry Division (formerly part of the Urban Regeneration Team in the Urban Division), who was highly evaluated for revising the "Yeongwol County Ordinance on Supporting Urban Regeneration Revitalization" to incorporate the results of gender impact assessments throughout all urban regeneration projects in the region and institutionalizing a gender-sensitive perspective from the initial planning stages.
In particular, Lee Yerim actively gathered feedback from local residents during the ordinance revision process and proposed and implemented policy improvements that considered the safety and accessibility of various groups when establishing urban regeneration project plans, thereby laying the foundation for inclusive policies that reflect gender differences.
This award is regarded as a model case demonstrating the practical applicability and institutional effectiveness of gender-sensitive policies in the field, and it is expected to serve as a benchmark for other local governments in the future.
