for Mechanical Technology Workers
Suyeon Kim, a senior in the Department of Employment Service Policy at Korea University of Technology and Education (KOREATECH), received the top award at the Korean Society of Mechanical Technology Summer Conference for her paper addressing the social and economic ripple effects of extending the retirement age.
KOREATECH announced on the 3rd that Suyeon Kim's paper was selected as the top award winner at the 2025 Summer Conference hosted by the Korean Society of Mechanical Technology.
Suyeon Kim's paper, titled "A Literature Review on the Socio-Economic Effects of Extending the Retirement Age for Mechanical Technology Workers," was presented in the Capstone Design section at the academic conference held at Jeonju University on August 22.
A total of 40 papers were reviewed at this conference, and after preliminary and final evaluations, her paper was selected as an outstanding submission.
The paper was highly regarded for its in-depth analysis of the issue of extending the retirement age for mechanical technology workers, which has emerged as an important topic in an aging society, and for its comprehensive examination of the related social and economic impacts.
Suyeon Kim stated, "The retirement of skilled technical personnel in an aging society is a social loss," and added, "I hope this research will help to re-evaluate the value of older workers in the industrial field and contribute to policy improvements."
Jungik Lee, President of the Korean Society of Mechanical Technology, emphasized, "This paper goes beyond academic research and is the result of deep consideration of social realities. It will provide important insights for the future direction of the mechanical technology field."
Meanwhile, the Department of Employment Service Policy at Korea University of Technology and Education is a four-year specialized program established in 2022, offering a curriculum that enables students to obtain the Level 1 Vocational Counselor certification through a competency-based assessment process.
