Bank of Korea Completely Revamps "Easy Guide to Detecting Counterfeit Bills" App
Large Text Feature Added for Seniors
English Version Updated
New User Options for Financial Institution Employees and Police Officers
The Bank of Korea announced on September 3 that it has completely revamped its "Easy Guide to Detecting Counterfeit Bills" app to make it easier for seniors and foreigners to identify counterfeit currency.
This app has been jointly developed by the Bank of Korea and the National Forensic Service and has been in operation since December 2016.
With this update, the Bank of Korea divided the "Counterfeit Bill Identification Guide" into three subcategories: ▲ convenient counterfeit detection methods, ▲ anti-counterfeiting features by denomination, and ▲ examples of counterfeit bills. The app now features a more intuitive interface and detailed explanations.
Additionally, new menus such as "Related Videos" and "FAQ" have been added, allowing users to quickly access frequently asked questions and answers in various situations. The Bank of Korea also provides videos directly introducing anti-counterfeiting features and information about counterfeit bills.
Furthermore, the English version of the app has been updated to be as detailed as the Korean version for foreigners, and a large text feature has been added for seniors. A new user selection option has also been introduced for financial institution employees and police officers, who are more likely to encounter counterfeit bills during work. When users select "financial institution" or "police," the app provides specific instructions on what to do when counterfeit bills are found and offers additional explanations on how to verify counterfeit bills using specialized equipment at financial institutions.

A Bank of Korea official stated, "With this update, not only the general public but also foreigners, financial institution employees, and police officers can easily access information about counterfeit bills through their smartphones. We expect this will greatly help prevent the circulation of counterfeit bills and reduce damage caused by counterfeiting in the future."
