Ahn Gyu-baek Orders Swift Investigation into Firearms and Ammunition Leak in Shooting Death
The Ministry of National Defense announced on September 3 that Minister Ahn Gyu-baek had ordered a swift investigation into how firearms and ammunition were taken outside the base in connection with the recent shooting death of an Army captain from the Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon.
According to the military, at approximately 6:29 a.m. the previous day, a captain affiliated with the Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon was found dead from a gunshot wound near Suseongmot Lake in Suseong District, Daegu. A K2 rifle was discovered next to him. It was reported that this rifle did not belong to the captain, but was instead the rifle of a cadet from the Korea Army Academy at Yeongcheon.
