Academy of Korean Studies to Hold Academic Conference on "K-AI Strategy"
Discussion on Cultural Subjectivity and Inclusiveness
"Need to Strengthen Interdisciplinary Integration Skills"
The AI Society Research Institute of the Academy of Korean Studies announced on September 3 that it will hold an academic conference on September 6 at the institute's auditorium under the theme "Humanistic Reflections on the K-AI Strategy: Cultural Subjectivity, Soft Power, and Inclusiveness."
The event aims to discuss strategies for securing social and ethical foundations such as cultural sovereignty, social inclusiveness, and data sovereignty, based on the understanding that investing in technology alone is not enough to become one of the world's top three AI powerhouses. Topics will include interdisciplinary research such as the integration of traditional Korean knowledge with modern AI technology, the development of large-scale language models, and human-machine interaction models.
About ten experts from the humanities and science and engineering fields, including Professor Jung Wonseop of Kyungnam University and Professor Choi Jaemok of Yeungnam University, will participate to explore ways to integrate AI and the humanities.

Han Dohyun, director of the AI Society Research Institute, emphasized, "Major overseas research institutions have already institutionalized interdisciplinary AI research between the humanities and science and engineering. Korea must also strengthen not only its technological capabilities but also its cultural sovereignty, ethical values, and interdisciplinary integration skills in order to achieve its goal of becoming one of the world's top three AI powerhouses."
