On Daegu Mayoral Bid Inquiry,
Lee Jinsook Says, "My Term Lasts Until Next August"
Lee Jinsook, Chairperson of the Korea Communications Commission, stated that she would take legal responsibility if the investigation reveals that she used the corporate card for personal purposes during her tenure as CEO of Daejeon MBC.
At the plenary session of the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee on September 2, Assemblyman Shin Sungbeom of the People Power Party asked, "If the investigation finds that a significant amount was used for personal purposes, how will you take responsibility?" Chairperson Lee replied, "I would have no other choice but to take legal responsibility."
Chairperson Lee consistently responded to repeated questions from Democratic Party lawmakers regarding the use of the corporate card by stating, "I did not use it for personal purposes; it was used solely for work." Even when pointed out that the card was used at a bakery around 4 a.m., she replied, "The police investigation will reveal the facts, but I have never used it for personal purposes."
When asked about her intention to run for mayor of Daegu, she maintained her position, saying, "I have consistently said, 'Please allow me to serve my full term; the statutory term lasts until August next year,'" and reiterated that she could not run if her term as Chairperson is guaranteed.
