Governor Kim Jin-tae Launches Monthly Traditional Market Shopping at Chuncheon Pungmul Market
Over 300 Provincial Government Employees and Related Organization Staff Participate
Governor Kim: "Communicating More with Merchants... I Encourage All Residents to Visit"
On September 2, Kim Jin-tae, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, visited the Chuncheon Pungmul Market to shop for groceries, marking the first implementation of his plan to make shopping at traditional markets a regular monthly activity.

View original imageApproximately 300 people participated in the market shopping event, including Governor Kim, provincial government staff, and executives and employees from related organizations such as the Gangwon Tourism Organization, Gangwon Cultural Foundation, Gangwon Talent Institute, Gangwon Credit Guarantee Foundation, and Gangwon Design Promotion Agency.
While greeting the merchants, Governor Kim said, "I have always remembered the merchants asking me to visit not just during holidays but on regular days as well," adding, "From now on, I plan to shop at traditional markets every month and communicate more frequently with all of you."
He further requested, "Since traditional markets offer everything from food for the table to daily necessities, I encourage all residents to visit these markets more often."
Afterwards, Governor Kim had lunch with the head of the market merchants' association at a restaurant inside Pungmul Market, where they exchanged opinions on ways to revitalize traditional markets, including night market operations.

Meanwhile, Chuncheon Pungmul Market was selected for the 2025 Traditional Market and Shopping District Revitalization Support Project, organized by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. This year, a budget of 380 million won is being invested to improve spaces for the night market, and the Chunpung Night Market is currently in operation.
