Choi Minho: "Proactive Measures Needed to Prepare for Worsening Drought"
Mayor Choi Calls for Proactive Measures
to Address Potential Water Shortages
at Executive Meeting on September 1
Choi Minho, Mayor of Sejong, has called for proactive and comprehensive measures to prepare for droughts, warning that the severe water shortages currently affecting the Gangwon region could occur in Sejong at any time.
Presiding over an executive meeting on September 1, Mayor Choi emphasized, "We must remain alert to the possibility that the impact of drought could gradually expand, and we need to establish plans for anticipated damages in our region and corresponding response strategies."
Earlier, during an executive meeting on August 19, Mayor Choi was informed about the shortage of agricultural water faced by farmers in Yeondong-myeon and Geumnam-myeon, and instructed officials to come up with proactive solutions.
He stated, "As groundwater levels around the Geumgang River continue to drop, the risk of drought is increasing," and urged, "Please be aware that this drought situation could occur not only in Gangwon but also in our region."
In particular, he instructed that drought response plans be established for firefighting water facilities and that the status of water supply be continuously monitored.
