Samcheok City to Stage Play "Man of the Century" on the 13th... Performing Arts Meet Local Residents
Held at the Grand Theater of the Samcheok Culture and Arts Center
Samcheok City in Gangwon Province announced on September 1 that the play 'Man of the Century' will be staged at the Grand Theater of the Samcheok Culture and Arts Center at 5 p.m. on September 13.
This performance was selected for the 2025 Performing Arts Distribution Support Project by the Arts Management Support Center. The theater company Myungjak Oksusubat will deliver a powerful performance with meticulous direction, promising to deeply resonate with the audience.
The play 'Man of the Century' sheds new light on Korean modern and contemporary history, spanning from the March 1st Movement to the Korean War, through the life of an ordinary man, Park Deokbae, who lived for 125 years. The story, told from the perspective of an unnamed ordinary citizen, offers the audience an opportunity to reflect on the connection between history and the present. With comic book-inspired imagination and dynamic stage direction, the play provides a fresh experience reminiscent of watching a webtoon.
Through this performance, Samcheok City aims to make performing arts, which are often concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area, more accessible to local residents and to expand the diversity of programs at the venue, thereby laying the foundation for continued access to high-quality performances.
