Yongin City to Expand Rice Support for Seniors at Senior Centers Starting Next Month
From Two 10kg Bags per Month
to Up to Six Bags Based on Membership Size
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on August 28 that it will increase the amount of rice supplied to senior centers in the city starting next month.
The city explained that this change in policy reflects suggestions made during a recent meeting between Mayor Lee Sangil and seniors at a senior center.
Mayor Lee stated, "Senior centers are evolving beyond simply being places for socializing among the elderly and are becoming spaces for cultural enjoyment. As the number of seniors increases, we have decided not only to improve the quality of rice but also to increase the amount provided to better meet the demand of each center."
Accordingly, the city will change its current policy of providing two 10kg bags of rice per senior center each month to a differentiated support system based on membership numbers. If a center has more than 50 members, it will receive four bags per month; if it has more than 100 members, it will receive six bags per month. The amount will be adjusted according to the demand at each center, following a survey of their needs.

Previously, the city also changed its policy on operating expenses for senior centers, switching from a uniform system to a differentiated system based on the number of registered members starting last year. In addition, since July last year, the rice supplied has been switched from government rice to 'Yongin Baegok Rice,' which is produced locally.
