View original imageThe Mokpo Coast Guard Station in South Jeolla Province announced on the 27th that it will conduct safety education for 50 ferry operators and workers in the Mokpo, Muan, Hongdo, and Heuksan areas until the 26th of next month.
According to the Mokpo Coast Guard, this training has been organized to establish order in maritime traffic and to enhance the ability to respond swiftly in emergency situations. The training is being conducted with the cooperation of specialized police officers in each field, the Korea Maritime Transportation Safety Authority, the Korea Radio Promotion Association, and instructors from Mokpo National Maritime University. The main topics include: ▲ methods for preventing maritime accidents and emergency response by type ▲ maritime traffic order including navigation rules ▲ survival skills, first aid, and use of life-saving equipment ▲ inspection and use of ship fire extinguishing and firefighting equipment ▲ and marine pollution response.
This training is a statutory requirement under the Act on Business of Passenger and Ferry Boats, and ferry operators and workers must complete up to 8 hours of training annually. Violation of this requirement may result in imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million won.
