Hanam City to Host 77 Reading Culture Events at 8 Libraries for September "Reading Month"
Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Hyunjae) announced on August 27 that, in celebration of September as the designated "Reading Month" to promote a national reading culture, a total of 77 diverse reading culture events-including exhibitions, performances, author lectures, and hands-on programs-will be held at eight public libraries in the city (Misa, Sinjang, Narul, Wirye, Ilga, Semi, Deokpung, and Digital Library).
At Misa Library, there will be a meeting with author Yoon Seona of "Nagging Escape Lab" on September 10 at 4:00 p.m., and with author Kang Hyomi of "Ddongbokki Grandma" on September 27 at 10:00 a.m. In addition, a special lecture by Professor Kim Bokjun, who served as a detective for 32 years, will be held as part of the "Misa Invitation" program on September 17 at 7:00 p.m.
At Sinjang Library, author Jung Jaehun, who is both a pharmacist and a food writer, will meet readers on September 13 at 2:00 p.m. to discuss "The Science of Fasting Everyone Knows but Nobody Understands." At Narul Library, author Baek Changmin, who wrote "Such a Historic Library," will vividly share the historical significance of libraries on September 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Wirye Library will host "Understanding Classical Music with a Lecture and Piano Performance" on September 20 at 2:00 p.m., while Ilga Library has arranged a meeting with author Shin Dongseop of "The Boy Who Raises a Black Fox" on September 6 at 2:00 p.m.
Semi Library will present a table puppet show for young children titled "The Day the Tiger Lost Its Ears" on September 20 at 10:30 a.m. Deokpung Library will offer a cultural lecture series by instructor Park Youngmi every Thursday at 3:30 p.m. from September 18 to October 30, introducing elementary school students and children from multicultural families to the coexistence of Korean and world cultures.
Each library will also offer special programs. Misa Library, in conjunction with its "Book Outing" project, will run "Let's Play with English Picture Books" every Saturday at 10:00 a.m. There will also be an outdoor bubble show on September 6 and a smartphone addiction prevention performance titled "Rainbow Land" on September 20. In addition, the reading room will host a blind book event called "There's Something About This Book."
Sinjang Library will hold a barrier-free movie screening (featuring audio descriptions and subtitles for the visually and hearing impaired) as part of its inclusive cultural program on September 18 at 7:00 p.m. The featured film, "I Am Bori," is a moving story about a family with hearing-impaired members.
Narul Library will stage the original musical "Feather Flute" on September 20 at 2:00 p.m., and Wirye Library will host an "Autumn Concert" outdoors at the Wirye Yard on September 27 at 4:00 p.m.
Additionally, Ilga Library will run the "Library Snapshot" event, where visitors can take photos with books, and the Digital Library will hold a "Lap Time Challenge" gaming tournament using Nintendo Switch.
Semi Library will feature the "Library Mission King" event to help participants become more familiar with books, while Deokpung Library will host the multicultural quiz event "Dadada: Together in Diversity through Multiculturalism."
