Do you remember the Dottegi Market? Busan's iconic traditional market, Gukje Market, is transforming into a festival venue to welcome the autumn season.
On August 26, Busan City announced that it will hold the "Dottegi Street Festa" around Gukje Market for three days from August 28 to 30, aiming to boost consumption and revitalize traditional markets.
This event will take place simultaneously at Gukje Market, Manmul Street, and Arirang Street. The city has themed the event as "The Fun of Watching, The Joy of Shopping," allowing visitors to experience the charm of traditional markets at reasonable prices. The purpose is to provide merchants with opportunities to increase sales and to give foreign tourists a chance to directly experience Busan’s unique market culture.
During the day, the event venues will offer shopping and hands-on activities, while in the evening, they will turn into festival spaces. Each day during the event, the city will distribute discount coupons worth up to 10,000 won, which can be used for purchases of 15,000 won or more. Through a receipt event, 20 types of prizes, including iPhones, will be offered, and those who purchase more than 10,000 won worth of market snacks will receive free beer in the "Pojangmacha Zone."
There will also be busking performances, cooking shows, invited singers’ stages, and free tasting corners so visitors can enjoy both sights and flavors. The market’s signature event, "Meet Without Stairs," will also be held. In this event, merchants from less accessible second-floor shops come down to the first-floor alleys to set up stalls, with a total of 15 shops participating. Visitors can browse a variety of products without having to go up and down stairs.
Starting with this festa, Busan City will continue to hold traditional market festivals every month until October. Next month, the "Kkolmok Fish Cake Grand Festival" will be held at Jangnim Alley Market in Saha District, and in October, the "Banyeo·Discount·Beer Festival" will take place at Banyeo 2-dong Market in Haeundae District.
