Busan Emerges as a Global Filming Destination
International Productions Like "Butterfly" and "Limitless" Spotlight the City's Unique Locations
As major international productions set against the backdrop of Busan are released one after another, the city’s diverse filming locations are attracting global attention.
According to the Busan Film Commission on August 25, the Amazon Prime Video series "Butterfly" and the Disney+ original series "Limitless: Now, Healthier" were both recently released on online streaming platforms.
"Butterfly," a spy thriller series, was filmed entirely in Korea. The Busan segments, which span 11 episodes, feature dynamic and spectacular action scenes.
Key filming locations include Dadaepo Sea, Dadaepo Port Dadae Pier, a private residence in Imlang, Busan Logistics Terminal, Busan Station, Chungmudong Coastal Market, and Yi Sun-sin Boulevard.
It is known that the strong commitment of Daniel Dae Kim, an actor and director originally from Yeongdo, played a significant role in bringing the production to Busan.
The popular documentary series "Limitless" follows Hollywood actor Chris Hemsworth, famous for his role as Thor in Marvel movies, as he experiences challenges such as stress and fear that modern people face and travels the world in search of solutions.
Visiting the thousand-year-old Beomeosa Temple, Chris Hemsworth engaged in conversations with the chief monk and practiced 108-bow meditation, experiencing the discipline and insights of traditional Buddhism. Out of three episodes in total, his journey in Korea appears in the second episode.
It is being analyzed that Busan’s diverse geography and long history are drawing the interest of international production teams. In fact, the number of international productions filmed in Busan is increasing every year. According to the Busan Film Commission, a total of six international productions were filmed in Busan in the first half of 2025, which is double the three filmed during the same period last year.
