President Lee to Meet Bill Gates Today to Discuss Health Cooperation
President Lee Jaemyung will meet with Bill Gates, Chairman of the Gates Foundation, who is currently visiting South Korea, on August 21, according to the presidential office.
Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft (MS), arrived in South Korea on August 20. This is his first visit to the country in three years since 2022. Through his foundation, Gates has been actively involved in areas such as combating climate change, poverty eradication, and public health.
During this meeting, Gates is expected to discuss with President Lee ways to cooperate in the global health sector. In connection with this, Gates is reportedly seeking collaboration with Korean pharmaceutical companies during his visit to promote vaccine distribution projects for low-income countries.

Meanwhile, after his meeting with President Lee, Gates is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Kim Minseok at the official residence in Seoul. In addition, he is expected to attend the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, where he will introduce the foundation’s ongoing global health initiatives and propose ways to expand cooperation with South Korea.
