View original imageIt has been revealed that the number of vehicles violating disabled-only parking zones in the Jeju region has surged to around 20,000 cases over the past two years.
According to Jeju City on August 18, a total of 18,982 vehicles were caught parking in disabled-only parking zones from 2023 through July of this year. The total amount of fines imposed reached 1.955 billion won.
Looking at the annual breakdown, there were 9,412 cases in 2023 (with fines totaling 1.03581 billion won), 6,342 cases in 2024 (with fines totaling 642.6 million won), and 3,228 cases up to July this year (with fines totaling 276.24 million won). By type, parking violations accounted for the largest number with 18,399 cases, followed by 459 cases of obstruction and 124 cases of signage violations.
Although there was a downward trend in violations in 2023, the number of cases has not decreased, with an average of 450 violations detected each month so far this year. Furthermore, there has been a notable increase in violations at officetels and apartment complexes recently.
As the number of illegal vehicles has not significantly declined, Jeju City announced that it will strengthen enforcement and launch intensive public awareness campaigns to prevent illegal parking in disabled-only zones.
Starting August 18 and running through September 13, Jeju City has initiated an intensive campaign to eradicate violations in disabled-only parking zones.

Park Hyosuk, head of the Welfare for the Disabled Division at Jeju City, stated, "Disabled-only parking zones are established to facilitate mobility for people with disabilities, so violations must be eradicated," and added, "We will strive to improve public awareness and foster a mature parking culture through ongoing public campaigns."
