The mother suspected of causing the death of her newborn after giving birth in a motel room has been handed over to the prosecution.

View original imageOn May 20, the Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul announced that a woman in her 20s, identified as A, was sent to the prosecution in custody on charges of child abuse resulting in death.
According to the police, A is accused of causing the death of her baby after giving birth in a motel located in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, this past February.
The investigation found that A herself called 119 for assistance at the time. When emergency responders arrived at the scene, the baby was already found dead in the bathroom toilet of the motel room.
A testified that she was not aware of her pregnancy; however, it was confirmed that she had received obstetric care prior to giving birth. The cause of the baby's death was determined to be drowning.

Believing that A killed the baby, the police applied for an arrest warrant against her on May 11. The court issued the warrant on May 14, citing concerns about the risk of flight.
